Rich Teacher, Poor Teacher
The choices I made in my life have not always been conscious and pre-planned. Many times my decisions were made because I didn’t see another way of doing something or be someone else.
And if you ask me how I became a language teacher, I will tell you honestly: language was the best thing I could do.
I never regretted being in an educational area; however, I have always felt there was much more to being a teacher than just teaching students.
I never felt completely happy or unhappy about what I am. I never felt fulfilled or empty. I am just convinced that what I knew and heard about teaching did not and does not define my path in this career or my life in general. I don’t have to do the things the way they have always been done.
I can be a little more honest with myself and others about what I want from life: I really want to be much happier, less preoccupied, less overwhelmed, and to be completely open, I want to have financial freedom. Holy moly! Let’s backtrack a little. Teaching is a noble profession, and you cannot mix money in it! Really?..
Teaching comes with difficulties, and this is the way it goes! Said who? You can’t be a teacher and be financially successful; you don’t work on Wall Steet! What makes you think so? I am getting sick and tired of this stereotype of a poor crazy teacher spending checks on classroom supplies.
I am sick and tired of hearing about my finishing my work at 3 p.m. and doing nothing, but watching TV. I am sick and tired of hearing I have a paid summer off and spend it carefree. I can’t understand many many other silly things people assume about teachers.
Want I need to say to every single teacher in NJ, the US or anywhere in the world: you are so talented and beautiful! You are enough in who you are! You give tremendous value to this world. You transform lives! You are an influencer!
You are a maker of the future! You have so much humanity and so much light inside of you! You are incredible! Stop feeling awkward or apologetic about your career! Stop selling yourself short! Stop limiting yourself to your classroom. Your influence can be so much more powerful.
You are knowledgeable in so many more areas than just education! You are or can be a business owner, life coach, financial advisor, presenter, writer, inventor, and many more! From the teachers that I met and had a chance to talk to, I have learned so much about their love for children and young people.
Their life stories, their journeys, their struggles, their energy they create, their incredible zest for life, and their ability to reflect and come out on the winning side – this is what inspires me, and changes my perspective about my mission.
As for my new mission, here it is: I set myself on a journey to help every single one of you, whether you are a teacher or not, to start a path toward happiness, financial freedom, and better living. I set this goal for myself some time ago because I was coming from a dark place of extreme unhappiness and economic fear.
What I have learned within several months of reading and educating myself about the topic of happiness changed my perspective on my career and my family life. I also plunged into the subject of money and how to reach financial freedom. Why? Because who doesn’t dream about it? It has become my biggest obsessions and my most compulsive interest.
So what about Rich Teacher, Poor Teacher? Well, I have been around ideas which suggested that teaching does not or cannot associate with financial freedom. Teaching as a career is supposed to be hard, draining, overwhelming sometimes.
I was tired of this, and I thought that I needed to take matters into my hands. The best place to start was reading. I dove into reading books about happiness, finances, self-improvement books. My mission was to find answers to questions I had about joy and finances. I wanted to help myself feel more fulfilled, confident; teach myself to appreciate me as I am, and find a more significant purpose and audience, share and grow. I know that there is a massive journey ahead of me, but I am excited, and I am thrilled to have someone alongside me.
So if you are in on the idea of happiness and financial independence for teachers, stay connected and let’s do it together! I promise to share what I am learning and what’s working for me. I promise to experiment and explore new and uncomfortable horizons.
I promise to be open and brutally honest about my findings. Let’s become buddies in finding answers to our questions. Let’s take this opportunity to connect!
Talk to you later!
